This a map of my chemistry students’ future goals and career choices. The idea for this map was chosen to motivate the students to do well in chemistry and to keep pushing toward their goals. Many students enter the classroom with great concerns about not doing well in chemistry. Many of those concerns stem from varying experiences that each of them had with science in the past. These inhibitions can prevent them from being successful in chemistry as well as in other science courses. Being engaged in conversations and having to write about their career choices were very useful in the sense that they were reminded why they must not give up. The map serves as a visual reminder that there is someplace that each of them need to be and there is something that they each need to do to get there.
Many of the students were concern about privacy therefore they assigned themselves names of chemical elements.
