CUNY Undergraduate Peer Mentoring Program: Applications Due June 3

Dear CUNY Faculty, Graduate Students, and Undergraduates,

Thanks to generous funding from the Teagle Foundation, we will be able to offer thirty (30) undergraduates from across the CUNY campuses a two-day workshop (July 27-28 at the Graduate Center). After completion of the Futures Initiative Peer Mentoring Workshop, students will then have the opportunity to become official Futures Initiative Peer Mentors at their respective colleges, helping to provide resources, advice, and support to fellow students throughout the academic year and hopefully beyond.

We invite you to encourage your students to apply for this program by completing this online application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1JR96pRqSFHJI9ceooGrfMx-kTgxmFAYszpI11Ez_tec/viewform. The application is due by 5 pm Friday, June 3.

This is an informal program that benefits the Peer Mentors just as much as the students with whom they connect. Research shows that peer mentoring enables both participants to learn material even more deeply than more traditional teaching methods. It is also an excellent way to develop transferable skills such as collaboration, identifying needs and resources, learning with and from others, building trust, and striving toward shared goals, all of which will benefit students during their time at CUNY and beyond, including in future careers. Peer mentoring emphasizes leadership, project management, time management, community-building, and organizational skills as well as field mastery.

All CUNY undergraduate students are welcome to apply, and we especially welcome applications from students who have taken a course with a Futures Initiative affiliated professor. Our past participants that attended our workshops last summer are welcome to apply for a second term. Applications are due on Friday, June 3, and selected Peer Mentors will be notified by June 15.

Thank you all for your support of this program!
