I was quite disappointed with my first speech, although my friends told me otherwise. I did not feel comfortable speaking in front of the class and this is surprising for me because I usually like making speeches. Anxiety overwhelmed me that morning. I just knew something wasn’t going to go right knowing I only had about 3 hours of sleep that night and 4 hours the night before that. I had a lot to talk about but underestimated how long it would take to talk about it. I should have practiced as if I were presenting in front of a class but instead I just practiced as if I were talking to a friend and led me to not take it as seriously. My pictures (which ended up backfiring) were supposed to guide me through my presentation to talk about the key points. I feel that this helps me every time I presented in high school. You’re not necessarily reading off the board but it helps keep your thoughts organized since you tend to be overwhelmed with thoughts when you’re actually up in front of the class. Just make sure the pictures will actually show up on the day of your presentation.
