Has anyone ever experience a “dry sponge tongue” before…..

I remember a couple of years ago, my tongue was dry and parched, I drank lots and lots of water but it was as if the water rolled right off my tongue and down my throat. My tongue still felt dry, like a sponge that has been sitting out in the sun- it didn’t absorbed any hydration from that water…still to this day I don’t know why, but since we’re talking about the tongue in class I thought I share my experience.

Any thoughts?

  1. For some strange reason reading this reminding me of spongebob square pants… when he goes into the sun and dries up like a sponge.. haha. Thats definitely strange and I’ve never experienced that before. My mouth has felt really dry before, but I believe that was due to allergies. Although I am no help to why your tongue felt so parched, I hope that never happens again cause it seems awful!

    1. Hahahaha, I love that cartoon. But yes that’s what it felt like, weird and it never happened again. I can’t remember how long it lasted but my body fixed it’s self.

  2. That sounds so uncomfortable, thanks god it went away. I have never heard of this before. You should ask professor Lissemore on Friday maybe he might know the cause of “dry tongue”.

  3. I know a guy that has a chronic dry mouth and it’s a medical condition. Seems like your situation was temporary so it most likely is not a medical condition. I get that “I’m so thirsty and nothing helps” feeling but I drink Gatorade and that fixes it, just dehydrated I suppose.

  4. Sometimes I get that before I get sick. In that case, I will go buy some grape flavored Gatorade or Pedialyte. The pedialyte especially helps with dehydration. Also, some people forget to drink water throughout the day. Things like that can catch up to you!
