Academic Activist

For our final project, Lucien Baskin and I had an incredibly insightful conversation with Kali Tambree. We had a multi-faceted conversation about the realities of our nation, and world that is built on racism, sexism, and classism. As a Ph.D. student studying historical sociology at UCLA, Kali shares her passion for researching oral history. Also, she discusses her other research projects conducting in South Africa and juvenile detention centers. A key theme of the conversation was the persistence of harm and violence in academia, prisons, as well as political and social spaces. Throughout the discussion, we continually grappled with the place of activism in academia and spoke of the need to implement abolitionist theory to re-create rather than reform the world in which we live. We hope you enjoy the conversation which can be found here.
